Is my chook about to lay?

Recommended Posts

Goujon, who is the oldest of my chooks at 8 and a half months, did this really weird thing today. Normally she is quite shy of humans - although getting bolder by the day - but this afternoon, she not only let me stroke her, but she went all flat and stuck her wings up and wiggled in a weird way. Is this crouching? Also, she keeps going into the nesting box (followed by my other two nosy pekins, who are not showing any signs of laying and I think are younger than the breeder told me as they still have quite small, pale combs, although they've both bulked up a bit in the month I've had them). Could I be getting an egg soon, maybe?!

You're probably looking at her to lay within 10 days or so. Not all girls crouch - the vast majority do and it is a brilliant way of telling that the first egg is on its way.

Head girl, Cissie, crouches every I 'ask' her. Sometimes she'll just stand still to let me pick her up.

Madge tries so hard not to crouch - and most of the time manages to stop herself. :shameonu:

Ada, "Moi, deferring to a hooman? Not me!!! No way!!! NEVER!!!" :wall::twisted:

Congratulations- You have given me hope I have 2 hens at 25 weeks and no eggs

I've got one about 30 weeks and no eggs. It'll be a shock when she finally pops one out!

I have Daffodils sisters and still no eggs either (25 weeks). Faces on mine are getting very red but no other signs :(
