Unsecure chicken perches

My Speckledy chickens peck at a the chicken who is having the dust bath, they are quite pecky anyway and tend to seize this opportunity. So thinking about getting a tray with highish sides to offer give some protection. It will need to go into the cube perhaps underneath so it stays dry. Any ideas?

My Mum suggested that to me as a way to provide them with a dust bath that I could leave out in the wet.

 

As it happens I just let them dig a hole in the grass instead.

We had an old car tyre in the garage that I have just put out in the garden for mine. Don't know if they will use it though as they have places in the garden borders that they like using. I would like them to use it though as the wild birds use their dust baths and are sure to pass lice on to them. I have filled in all of their favourite places in the hope that they will use the tyre.

I have put an old car tyre filled with lovely wood ash and DE in the run for them----but no, thye prefer the manky old hole they have dug themselves just next to it!!!

I put a tyre as a dustbath in my WIR and my girls were so scared of it they wouldn't go within 6 feet of it .

My two 'new' hens started at 15 weeks. The others were 21 weeks when I got them and dive bombed the dust bath when they saw it.

Thanks Christian......you should see the chicks now...they are coming up and eating out of my hand and sitting beside me (love it )

Bought some corrugated plastic sheeting like yours and have put on top of run with shading over too + have extended out run so that when I am home they can play in garden
