Can anyone recommend dog clippers..

Recommended Posts

I've just given Dennis the Westie his bath and trim, but my normal 'human' clippers just can't cope with his fur and I ended up plucking instead of shaving. Had to do him with scissors - not a good idea!

Please could any of you doggie people recommend a decent but not too expensive set of clippers? Or are they just the same as 'human' ones and I should just get the blades cleaned and sharpened. 8)

Here he is all clean and spruced up (you should have seen him before I got to him! )

Ah, what a sweetie and such a great excuse to put piccies of our lovely doggies on here! :D:D:D

I clip Molly with Wahl clippers. I have bought rechargeable ones, as I usually end up chasing her around the garden to get her clipped: If I was on the end of a plug, it would be very frustrating! She's a big dog... it takes ages. .... here she is.... :D

oh, don't know what model they are... they've got "professional" written on them and they're funky blue.....

 Cannot recommend, but am interested in the topic, as we have a rescue spaniel-collie cross called Tori, and she is very like Milo. :D

Last year when it was 30 degrees plus, we did discuss clipping her, or not, and still cannot decide .... she has legs on her like chewbacca aka Star Wars :lol: .

Molly is gorgeous too, Annie ....... :P .[/img]

The only thing about clipping is that it changes the nature of the coat, and once you've done it, its done, if you know what I mean. Molly should be wiry, but because we have clipped her, and not hand stripped (which would take about 6 hours  ), her coat is now as smooth as velvet... of course, we don't mind this at all, but she's completely "wrong" for an Airedale. :?

Clipping long haired dogs, like collies for example, might make their coats thicker and less "hair" like, if you know what I mean...... :? Sorry... not explaining myself very well here....

They dont make anything of the chickens Helen!:lol::lol:

The pictures you see are looking down the garden towards the house, behind me is roughly the same space again but its fenced off so even though the bears can hear the chicks they never see them :D Good job as the bears have very strong terrier instincts!:lol:

Although when Flump was inside when she was poorly she did peck Ted on the nose!:lol::lol:

:P Yes, Gooner-Girl, Tori is a springer cross, more white than black, with one big black spot on one side, and very "dappled".

If clipping will alter her coat, I think I will opt for a more conservative "trim" of relavent parts  . I too love Poppy and Teddy, our last dog was a rescue Staffy Cross.

Will Berties coat change alot from clipping ... I love little Westies fur :P
