joe14
Hello all I've finally got my 3 new chickens living with my old three!! Anyway they free range together all day but come night time my old three go into the eglu and my new three go into my new bigger chicken coop. I want all to sleep in the bigger chicken house so I can take out the eglu. Just wondered what is the best way of doing it? Should I just take out the eglu one evening and place them in the new chicken coop? Will they be distressed to lose their eglu if its there one moment and gone the next? Any ideas?? Many thanks Joe
Chucky1
Joe No real advice I'm afraid but just to let you know I appreciate the problem. I've just built a concrete chicken house that I wanted to populate. Our newest 7 girls had, had their first week in a cube and were happily FR with the rest of the flock. At bedtime I lured the new chooks to the new concrete house with the promise of treats (and riches behind dream) they followed and spent the night in the new house. They were not happy. Come the next night they were the first into the cube and so far at the back I didn't have the heart to turf them out. So the new chicken house is waiting empty for the next intake of chickens. I wish you luck
chicken bark
When my 3 new girls had been free ranging with the older girls for a week or so I decided they should all move into the same house. When the new girls had gone to bed in the eglu I took them out and put them in the bigger house. The next night I just made sure they had no access to the eglu. As all seemed to be okay I then removed the eglu from sight completely. It took one of the new hens a little longer to remember where the new house was but she is particularly dim. All put themselves safely to bed with no encouragement from me last night. Good luck.
