How many eggs could a pekin bantam sit on?

Recommended Posts

If she could every egg in the world.

I know one of our friends has a rather smaller than normal pekin girl who was broody but in with all the other hens and she had stolen 15 fertile eggs and was sitting on them rather comfortably. She had even gone out the run and had rolled 2 brahma eggs all he way back so she could have more.

10 chicks hatched out. The 2 brahma and 8 pekin chicks lucky they only got 1 cock which was a pekin and had to cull him :(. One of the hens came out as a bit lavender a bit black a bit white and a bit silver. Like someone had splashed paint on it lol

When i went on holiday i said to my brother who was looking after the chickens ''Collect the eggs everyday, dont leave them in there or we will have 7 broody hens and not to mention cheryl going broody!'' we came back to 2 broodys sat on 49 eggs, he hadn't collected them throughout the week. we still have one broody now sitting on dud eggs, luckily getting fertile sometime this week. :D

In the end it doesn't matter how big the eggs are you just need to judge it.

How comfortable do you think the hen would be with a certain amount of eggs under her.

My little Bob has only just gone broody today. So I gave her a duck egg ( she wanted 2 but she is tiny ). Betty is big for a light sussex bantam so she has 2 duck eggs. They are running duck eggs so they are pretty big :D

Why dont you mix it up put 3 bantam eggs and 3 LF eggs ?

It is always nice seeing them together because people rarely do it.

Like go with 3 orps and 3 bantams.

Also have you thought about Cochins there like the giant pekin.

My MF Pekin Holly wouldn't agree with that  ........I tried planting lovely brown Marans eggs under her & she screamed blue murder.....put some fake bright teal smaller (though not quite Pekin size) eggs & she squealed with delight & plopped her fluffy little bum straight on them......she and Blossom were both more than happy with the 6 Pekin eggs I bought for each of them :D

My Orpie eggs are slightly smaller than a Maran egg, so perhaps your Pekin would be happy enough with Orpie eggs, they are all so very different
