tooties
Nora, my black star hybrid is most definitely broody. I looked on here for advice and have kept her off the nest box, given her cool baths several times a day and made a broody cage out of an upside down catbox up on bricks to let the air under (with her own food and water). I let her out of it for a bit of FR during the day whilst I was supervising to ensure she wasn't trying to nest - and I also let her sleep in the eglu with the others overnight with a big flowerpot in the nestbox to stop her going in there. So I'm now on day 3 with the broody cage being installed on day 2. This morning as I had to go to work, she had a dunk in the trug at 6.30 and straight in the broody cage..... (edited to say, she was not happy! I don't suppose the neighbours were either at 6.30am!!) Should I be keeping her in the broody cage overnight? is that necessary? poachedegg
We put any broodies in for 3 days aqnd nights without letting them out at all and has worked both times previously, though this lat one took 5 days/nights (possibly due to the warmer weather). The idea is to break her broodiness, so by letting her out you maybe prolonging it. Good luck.
