jay-nairne
I have a young cockerel which we introduced to three hens about 3 days ago. He seems very timid and the hens seem to be pecking at him. Is this normal??????
jennydavies
If he is still young and immature I think it's very possible that the hens will bully him. It's only when he gets a bit older and establishes himself that he will take charge.
Egluntyne
Maybe he s too young? How old is he and how old are the hens?
jay-nairne
im not sure exactly but are quite young the cockerel is the age of what would be point of lay if it was a hen. Should i separate him or shall i just leave him???
Redwing
Unless you are introducing a mature cockerel its always best to introduce two birds at a time The cockerel isnt old enough yet to take charge, that will change in time For now try taking him and another out, let them bond for a few days and try re-introducing them as a pair - safety in numbers and all that.. Egluntyne
Can you beg, steal or borrow an angler's landing net? Makes the job a whole lot easier.
