kitbag
Hi guys, unfortunately Gloria passed away this morning because of a prolapse. This leaves poor old Hilda by herself, and we are not sure what to do. My Dad really doesn't want any more chickens but we have been offered a couple of quail. Will that be hard to do introductions and will Hilda still be lonely? Even if we did get more chickens how hard are introductions to do? Thanks guys! Egluntyne
Not sure that quail and chickens can live happily together, tbh. Could your Dad be persuaded that Hilda needs a companion of her own sort?
kitbag
maybe he could. The problem is that he didn't want chickens in the first place, so by getting more he will not be a happy bunny. I really don't know what to do as my Dad wants to 'get rid of her' but my Mum seems to think she will be ok to level her on her own, however I think that's cruel so will never let that happen. I don't want to not have chickens though as I loved and still love my gorgeous girls so much. Xxx
Mollie333
How about you get another chicken, or two. Just think, where would the eggs come from. My chicken ate a sparrow once, i wouldn't put quail past her, tbh! I may be wrong, but quail are flighty.. I'd prefer chickens.
Guest
You can't let quails free range because they will fly away. Not a good mix at all.
midori
I'm sorry to hear about Gloria. Can you maybe chat with your Dad and find out exactly why it is he doesn't want more chickens? Does he think they smell, tak eup too much time, wreck the garden etc and is there a way round his reasoning for not wanting more?
docsquid
Sorry to hear about Gloria You do need to find out why he doesn't want chickens - there may be reasons you can get round if you talk it through. DH didn't want mine, but he now does quite like them, although he won't admit it
kitbag
I would say my Dad doesn't want chickens because of the space they take up. And they also dug up Mum's veggie patch. But I'm not ready to not have chickens if that makes sense!? I'm just worried about Hilda until the parentals finally decide what to do! Thanks for replies guys - I definately will not be getting quails!! Xxxx
cathybc
sorry to hear about Gloria; lone chickens can work - I have one who has been on her own for several months and is fine. Tho I think she is probably an exception. x
kitbag
I'm not sure about Hilda on her own, she was always 'hanging around' the other two! My mum was wondering about chickens and ducks together? Does that generally work? Xxxxx
