art12345
Ive come home to find Tullulah has laid a soft egg and has egg shell stuck in her vent. i removed VERY gently what i could see but there is a big bit she is straining to get out and i know i shouldnt pull it out. Ive washed her as she was a bit pooey and tried lubricating it but she looks awful straining. How can i help her Angela
Redwing
A warm bath may help or try gently holding her over some steam - pour a kettle of boiling water in to the sink to take the edge off the heat of the steam You may have to hook it out and risk breaking it but dont go down that road unless you have to
art12345
the last bit seems to have gone back back inside her. I bathed her in a warm bath but that didnt seem to dislodge it. she has gone to bed now so i hope nature will take its course and it will come out during the night

Olly
Oh dear - afraid that doesn't sound good, and a trip to the vet might be your best bet. You could try 'steaming' her again, while you wait for the vet's to open?
art12345
just to let you know she is a lot better now and has passed this phase of softie stress as i call it. Need ideas on how to build her up as she is very thin
Olly
Glad to hear it. Try a bit of tuna (rinsed), or some people feed cat food - I am sure the hens love it, but I don't like the idea myself!
Egluntyne
You can try her with any of the following: rinsed tuna, organic cat food, scrambled egg, unmedicated chick crumbs, growers or breeders pellets.
