Dangri Posted July 7, 2010 Share Posted July 7, 2010 I've just fed my girls a handful of mealworms and oh my gosh Babs was beside herself and in a complete frenzy to get to them... I think she's quite keen on them hahaha I've just hung some millet in their run, but that doesn't seem to be anywhere near as exciting for them as pecking at the grass! Oh well I tried! I keep finding her in the tree pecking at the green fly and chasing birds so hopefullt this will channel her energy towards the ground. I just picked some up from Annie Halls poultry shop and mine love them, however I didn't know how many to hand out. Also got me some corn flakes and a meal on a stick, Im spoiling them as I have been working away in Canada with only a chicken cam to keep an eye and the wifes Skype. A handful of mealworms gets them all back into the run without fail after FR, which they do almost all day every day. The excitement hasn't worn off yet! We get the 3kg bag from Ann Kennedy. Have also tried the girls with strawberries and tomatoes but the mealworms win hands down with cat food coming a v close second. I'd been thinking I was doing well at finding 100g tubs from Home Bargains at £1.99 but £30 for 3kg is much better value. Mind you, almost wishing I'd never intoduced mine to mealworms - it's rocketed the average cost per egg produced Trouble is, once they'd tried them, nothing else satisfies in the same way (cooked spaghetti is the closest). I've just shown my hubby the shear frenzied attack on the mealworms tub, he was impressed (and I hadn't even got them out of the tub!!!).
