jellykelly
I went out a 7 to check on the chickens. All three chicks were up and about. P diddy (the one that was initally thrown out of the nest and the smallest) was looking a bit hunched but moving. By 8 she was on her side in the run with laboured breathing. I couldn't watch her suffer There wer no signs of cocci - poo all fine and other chicks are well. I will buy some coxoid today just in case though. Not the best way to start my morning

The Dogmother
Sorry to hear that. Sometimes they just have more problems than are immediately obvious; I had to cull one of my chicks at the weekend for similar reasons.

jellykelly
Thanks guys. I know it was the right thing to do, but it still doesn't feel great. The kids have taken this so well though - they understood the situation completely - so if nothing else, it has taught them a lesson in how to take full responsability with all aspects of animal care.
