abwsco
Has anyone had a broody who has gone into mega alarm panic mode continually when they've been put in the cage? She was also throwing herself at the sides and ramming her head through the bars. Had to take her out as she was in danger of damaging herself not to mention another noise complaint to the council. Jossy
Hi. I tried a broody cage when one of mine were broody and she did exactly the same thing. I took her out after about 1/2 hour as she ( and me) was too stressed. I ended up putting coated garden wire rolled up in the nesting box of the cube at night so she couldn't get into it. Took it out in the morning for the others to lay in, lifted her out of the cube in the morning and her free range without the others, as they needed the run door open to get back into lay... She had her own supply of food and water, and could see the others through the run. It took about 3 days to snap her out of it and she was laying again with in a week or so. Hope this helps, I wouldn't use a cage again but it works for some
abwsco
Thanks Jools and Jossy. Am glad to hear I'm not the only one with a broody who went physco. She's back in solitary again anyway due to more feather plucking! so at least I can keep her locked out of the Go easily enough. She's definately odd as although she's grumpy as heck when broody and goes for DH and any other chicken who goes near her it's the only time she'll let me handle her.
