Redwing
ahh thanks! yes i am inner city leeds! to be honest i am worried that my eglu might get nicked! they are pretty heavy and someone would struggle to pinch one, honest! just keep it out of sight from the road etc.. chick wiggle
Hi there and welcome to the forum Your eglu should be safe, as Tash said they are quite heavy and bulky. Storrs is great and have a huge variety but beware their approach road! Its a mile long, very ..err very bumpy road! Just take it very slow You would get 4 bantams in an eglu, i had five in mine but they had a WIR so more run space, and they were just fine. Also i would start off with 3 rather than 2 just in case one dies (sad but it happens, stress of moving and all that) that way you wouldnt be left with one on its own. Dont forget we like photos on here!
Bramble
hello!!!!! I'm still very new too! I'd agree completely, Eglus are much heavier and more sturdy than they look in the pictures, especially when they have the run attached. It occurred to me that someone might pinch mine, but having assembled it all that's one of the few things I'm now worrying about anymore!!! Good luck with the bantams! mum-2-olly
ahh everyone has been soo lovely. thankyou soo much. i have been doing so muich research for about 4 months now. I know the eglu is heavy..lol i picked it up myself and nearly died in the process!!! I was thinking of getting 2 girlies and then maybe adding an ex bat once i knew what i was doing lol! We live in a tiny house with a big yard with a road running thru. so the chooks can safely run about once i get them as my garden is secure. i am just awaiting for some fencing to stop prying eyes then am going to see. SHALL I LOCK THE EGLU? had a look at storrs poultry and they have a huge array of bantams. does anyone have any advice, i have a little boy so would like them to be friendly, good layers and of course pretty!!! anyone recommend a breed of bantam to fit these? thanks again CURRENTLY WITH NO GIRLIES
jellykelly
Pekins! They fit into every one of your requirements. They're friendly, funny, very pretty, easy to handle and quite good layers inbetween bouts of broodiness (that they're apparently prone too - mine haven't attempted broodiness yet!) But so soft and snuggly with humans and the cutest littlest eggs Your little boy would love them
mum-2-olly
yeah, there is a farm near us and he has always loved the chickens! he really loves the silkies, bless, he is so gentle too Might eventually get a silkie for him but they seem quirky!!! lol! i really am in 2 minds as to when to get them. i live in a tiny house in a housing estate. lots of people pass thru the street and we currently have a small 2 ft wall but no fencing. i know people are saying that the eglu is heavy but i am worried my girls will get pinched or hurt or my eglu stolen what do yuu think? i am in the process of getting some fencing its just whether to risk it for those few weeks or not. Plum
Hi, if your gut feeling is they are at risk then for the sake of a couple of weeks to get extra security I would wait. They are worth waiting for and you'll have such fun when you get them.
Egluntyne
I think I'd wait too, for your own peace of mind.
