Henslaved
Can anyone tell me what on earth Hazel has produced . It was hanging from her vent after she got out of the dustbath , I tried to gently pull it from her but it wouldn't come free. So, out came the scissors . I managed to remove it without any damage to Hazel. It felt kind of soft and rubbery, so I assumed it was a hard yolk. I had to investigate further . So out came the scissors again and................................ After yet further investigation , it seemed to be thin layers of a rubbery substance ( a bit like a nearly softie) in the centre was a little watery blood (sorry for the graphic detail ) Any ideas anyone Hazel seems fine enough, eating, drinking and running for treats. I thought this could be why she has stopped laying, but a week after producing this, still no eggs .
igobarefoot
Oooh crikey, that is very odd looking! I'm absolutely no help at all in figuring it out though I'm afraid - too much of a newbie - but it looks like its been cooked I hope you get some more expert answers than mine! chick wiggle
I think that is what is called a lash, its not a problem and is quite common. Im sure someone more experienced will be along soon to explain it better but dont worry about it.
Space Chick
It looks like a lash to me, rare, but nothing to worry about. It's when a hen sheds some egg laying tackle, no 2 are ever the same.

Henslaved
Is it like some sort of hen hysterectomy and does this mean she won't lay again? (not that it matters)
Christian
No, should should continue to lay. Just a blip in her system.
