dixie chick
I have had my girls for three weeks now and can see why you are all so enthusiastic about yours! I am besotted with them! They are about 17/18 weeks now and the breeder told me to feed the growers pellets until they were 18 weeks. However, I clearly bought too much food - and have a few weeks more supply of the growers. What should I do? If you look at the breeds I have, they still wont be laying for a while ....In fact - if Tom 123 is online could he tell me when they are likely to lay - I read in an earlier post of his that the Orpington may not lay until 40 weeks and the Sussex 25 weeks. As for the other five, when might they start? Advice would be much appreciated!
Isabel
Keep them on the Growers then as you get closer to the end of the bag, start to mix in some layers and gradually increase the layers and decrease the growers. I haven't done it yet but that's what I've read!!
Redwing
I agree, keep them on the growers for now You can in fact feed pure breeds growers right up until they start to lay and for slow maturing birds such as your Orp its actually a very good idea
AmberSky
I just recently have mixed some growers and some layers together to build up my girls and put a bit of meat on them, not to eat them but cos i was concerned when they get ill they go down hill so rapidly!
