Lucy Updated. (Ex batt being attacked)

Recommended Posts

Hi all

Lucy, my most shy nervous chicken, has just come out of the cage of shame as she was broody. She originally went broody while I was on holiday and my house sitters didn't really know how to cope with her, but when it started my other five girls started attacking her quite viciously; they didn't do this to one of the others when they went broody earlier this summer.

When I came home she went straight into the cage, has done her 3 days and nights penance and has now been let out, but they are all attacking her still. As I said at the start, she is a very nervous girl so these attacks are making her stay up high and not come down for food and water, this is what I am finding very worrying.

Is this normal sometimes and will it settle down eventually before she starves or dies of thirst? I am loath to put food and water up high as this will just encourage her to stay there longer.

Any advice would be helpful

Thanks

Jan

I have this with one who is bottom of the pecking order. From time to time it all flares up again. I have to isolate the bully or bullies ( it's 2 main ones). I keep them locked up for 2-3 days - no remission, and they are then down the pecking order - and off we go - till next time

I thought I would post you an update.

We had to take Lucy back to the breeder this morning and he is now keeping her as our other five were pecking her so much that she was frightened to come out of the cube, so by staying with us she was either going to get pecked to death or starve to death; we felt she may have a better chance going elsewhere.

Once the breeder saw her (she had odd eyes too) I don't think he was convinced that she was a well bird, so I am not sure that he will be keeping her long if you get my drift :(

We are obviously very sad to see her go and will miss her a lot, although she was not a particularly friendly bird there was a certain something about her that you had to love and want to look after her for. But I am glad we had her for 11 months and hope that wherever she goes she has a better life and is not so pecked.

I will miss her little brown eggs :(
