Eglu tomorrow, chickens Wednesday!!!

Recommended Posts

Can you tell that I'm SOOOO excited! We kept chickens years ago but, since our house move, have been without our 'girls'. I've finally talked my (long-suffering) husband into getting some more ........ and it's happening THIS WEEK!! :D The red eglu is being delivered tomorrow (red eglu) and I'm collecting the chooks from a local breeder on Wednesday. GNR:clap: To say that I'm looking forward to it would be the understatement of the year!

I've prepared the area for their run and spent hours on this forum. I can see me yearning for a WIR before too long ....... but daren't mention that to my husband for a while yet!!!!

I'll post some pics of Eglu tomorrow, before you ask!!!

Funny you should mention a WIR, I've only had my eglu and run for two weeks and want to get an extension BUT at the same time I'm thinking, 'wouldn't a walk in run be nice ... !?!? Thing is I really like the fox-proof-ness of the eglu and I worry if I made a WIR in wouldn't be the same ... if anyone from omlet is reading this PLEASE can you make a WIR!?!

Don't worry! We are all mad!:lol:

WIRs can easily be made fox proof by using weldmesh panels (not chicken wire) and making sure you have a base that cannot be tunnelled through (e.g concrete or weldmesh). Sorry to tempt you, but look on Flyte so Fancy, Chirpy Coops and Bay Animal Housing. 8)

As soon as I've sorted out tea, I'll do my best to oblige!! I'll need to enlist the help of my daughters to remind me how put on pics!

We've gone for a theme with our names. A prize for the first Omleteer to guess our theme............

Wow! Clever husband!! (It's only taken him an hour, mind you!!). The run and extension were easy to put together (for a blonde and an eleven year old). (red eglu) So impressed with the whole product - have spent most of day just sitting outside admiring our darling new chucks. GNRGNRGNR

More photos to come apparently.............

You can tell I've been scrutinising this forum carefully .............. Please note the green plastic edging strip (B&Q) around the run to prevent the wood chips being scattered all over the patio. We attached with some long plastic ties and it's working ..... so far! (Obviously very early days!) :)

Yay! Lovely set up, lovely girlies (feathered and other variety).

Did you get 2 small sections of mesh? You should fit them on the Eglu side of the run to prevent foxes digging under the eglu and into the run that way... here's a piccie, that'll show it far better than I could ever explain  They're the little square bits on the very right hand side :o)
