A real find...

Recommended Posts

Yesterday, I went to Wyle Valley Chickens (by sheer accident you understand) and was amazed by both the quality and the variety they have on offer. I accidentally came away with 2 x 12 week Aracaunas, as you do... At some point, I'll tackle the technology to put up a photo, but take my word for it - they are gorgeous!

It's not far from Stonehenge in a village called South Newton. If you do go, ask the sat nav to take you via The Woodfords - that way you avoid the queues at Stonehenge. Website is www.wylevalleychickens.co.uk

I certainly saw breeds I had never seen before, for example, a Fayoumi -"Ancient Egyptian Breed, selectively bred for egg production. Hardy and early maturing. Classified as a Rare Breed. We have both Silver and Gold Pencilled."

Well worth a visit if you're in the area and happen to have a box or two in the boot -as you do...

Yes - it's a working farm. She keeps the main stock in a barn near her cottage and brings the " shop stock" down to the farmyard.

It's certainly a very tempting place - and she has so many varieties. People seem to come from miles around. Someone was coming from Suffolk on Sunday and I met someone from Farnham with 17 chickens, and someone else from Basingstoke, just starting out.

Worst thing for me was the traffic for the last 3 miles but now I know the back way, nothing will stop me- which perhaps is not good news for my bank balance!

How lovely to read this! I've spent the last month researching the best place to buy my chooks, and settled on Wylye Valley for the quality and variety they seem to offer. It's a long drive (I live in Bexley) so it's great to hear from an independent source that they're as good as I'd hoped! Thank you :-)

Tina :-)
