Has anyone solved the problem of how to stop the chooks from kicking wood chips into their water containers (both Glug & type you fill up & turn upside down)? Came back from weekend away to find that they had kicked stuff into both water containers, soaking up their water supply.

Hi, I have a bucket drinker and put it on a thick bit of paving slab and put another less thick bit of slab infront of it. You could try hanging up the type you fill and turn upside down and raise the glug up a bit higher and give the chickens a tree stump or something to step on to reach it.

Mine all hang about 6 inches...it rarely gets anything in it!!

got mine on a concrete block and a deep clay bowl makes it about 8 inch off the bedding

Yep, I hang mine up, if thats impractical then stand them on bricks, that should do the trick

Mines on a concrete slab, does the job nicely

Mine on a couple of layers of bricks. Can see a theme emerging here.

mine wash their greens and their feet in theirs - not sure why

Oh yes, mine like to wash their feet in their water too. Also they occasionally like to poo in it It seems the water is much improved with some added flavouring!

Thanks very much everyone. I will try raising non-Glug drinker up on bricks & put the Glug a bit higher as advised.

Hope that works. I hang mine quite high up and then give them a log to stand on so they can reach to drink. Even the most determinedly diggy chicken can't get too much bedding in the glug when it is that high up
