Sooo much pooping

I think I'm getting closer to my OH building my WIR (to be fair to him he's been working really hard on decorating inside so hasn't had time) so I'm thinking I will move the 2 eglu runs to another part of the garden and put down lime to 'clean' the area the WIR will be built.

 

How long should I keep the chickens off the limed area ?

How much lime should I use ?

Anything else I should do/think of ?

I scatter lime - few handfuls across a Eglu run+extension?, and the chooks aren't kept out of the area at all!

 

Lime won't clean the area though, I don't think. It helps with smells etc. You need something like Stalosan.

So long as it is garden lime they will be fine as it is only calcium carbonate.

I use a mixture of garden lime and either Stalosan or BioDri, seems to work well for me.

I've only used Stalosan F and found it works really well. I put some down inside our run yesterday after we had swept all the woodchips out and the base was all wet and horrible looking and after putting some Stalosan F down and letting it soak up all the damp as was recommended on here it was all fine.
