I think that I have read about poultry shield being a good dilutable disinfectant but I can't get any locally at the moment.

 

Is it ok to use a household one like dettol used really diluted after cleaning everything with hot soapy water?

 

This would only be as a temporary measure, or does it really have to be a poultry only one?

Dettol will be ok but take care not to leave any puddles because I understand it's toxic to chickens.

 

There are other agricultural disinfectants you can use if you really want to disinfect rather than clean like Viratec, V1, bio vx. If you go to a horsey place you'll find them.

I just use fairy liquid and give everything a good scrub with a sponge.

Viratec is brilliant, but to be honest, I just use my current anti-mite prep as it combines a disinfectant and mite killer. I do use Viratec to rinse the drinkers and feeders though, especially as I have chicks at the moment.
