Goldstar
I raked over my woodchip tonight because I noticed where it had been raining the earth underneath was very hard.(At the moment I have a shower curtain covering the top of the run to stop the rain, but it is pooling and when the wind blows, blows straight into the run) I now wish I hadnt bothered because it stinks. There was a feint smell before but now I have churned it all up and made it 100 times worse. Could anyone recommend something I could put down to help get rid of it. I have heard that garden lime is good, would anyone recommend it and is it the stuff you can get from b&q? Any replies would be gratefully received. Thank you. patsylabrador
Yes, garden lime works very well. I bought mine in the local garden centre.
dixie chick
How about some Stalosan F as well? Its a fine pink powder that seems to kill all sorts of smells. You can buy it online from Flytes so Fancy and other places. I think it is amazing stuff!
Christian
Yep, would recommend Stalosan F too. It isn't that cheap, but my tub has lasted ages! I sprinkle it everywhere!
Ain't Nobody Here
Stalosan F and garden lime fan here too .
Goldstar
Thank you so much for your replies. When I went out earlier the smell had gone. But I am still going to use the garden lime. When using stalosan f do the chickens need to be removed from the run? Think I will use this too as it seems to get rid of all sorts of beasties. ClaireG
No, you can use the Stalasan with the chickens in situ
Goldstar
Right, this is what I have done - today I bought some garden lime, when the chickens had gone to bed I raked over the area again and put some lime down then raked it through, then I did it again, then lastly I have sprinkled some on top. Does this sound ok, or have I gone over board or not done enough? On wednesday morning I am going to order some stalosan which then should arrive thurs or fri,(I cant order it any sooner because I want to make sure someone is here to receive it) then will treat with that. Thank you again for replying to previous posts.
