Lavenders_Blue
Hubby and had a super afternoon out today - we went to a maize maze! For anyone who is close to Leicester/Market Harborough and is looking for something to do tomorrow, I can highly recommend Wistow Maze. The maze is cut into a field of maize and features 3 miles of paths. The maze is a different shape each year -this year it's a Spitfire. Along the way, you have to hunt for question boards and answer the clues. There are 10 of these cleverly dotted around the maze to make you go down pretty much all of the paths! All the questions are on the theme of planes/WW2. It's a great day out with or without kids, there were lots of families and equally lots of couples/groups of adults enjoying the maze. Definitely wear wellies though as it is farmland and pretty muddy! Also on the site is a farm shop, tea rooms and other shops (gardening/pet supplies/pretty things for the home) and a play area for the kids, in case they are not worn out after hiking 3 miles of the maze Definitely worth a trip, but hurry as I think it's only open for another week or so before the maize is cut down (for animal feed). sadietoo
It sounds great. My DD and I do love a maze..but sadly our nearest one the Hampshire Mega Maze is closed this year, and the nearest one to us is Crawley. We have had a great time there in previous years with my DD and I against my DS and his mates...(not that we're competitive you understand )..I thoroughly recommend a maze as a great day out. Snowy
We only live up the road from Wistow - my boys love it there. It's brilliant for a day out. As well as the maze there are some great little shops across the road at the garden centre, and some beautiful walks.
LuckyChickenLover-
I did something like that once, can't remember where is was though. It was really huge and in the shape of a horse. You had to find the body parts along the way, and they had like bricks for teeth and stuff like that.
bronze
I love maize mazes. We get quite a few around here. Haven't been this year and may be too late now. Have friends complaining its harvest already
Seagazer
We did the Marsh Maize Maze last year in Dymchurch, we had Cookie (our dog) with us and got incredibly lost and hot. But it was good fun but I wish we'd taken a drink in with us.
Lavenders_Blue
But it was good fun but I wish we'd taken a drink in with us. Ditto, I was getting really quite thirsty but thought we must have done most of the maze so we'd be out soon for a cuppa at the tea rooms. Hubby looked at the map and declared we weren't even halfway round It is thirsty work.
Jennifer Jane
We've just got back from walking in that area and DH mentioned something about a maze. We will have to remember for next year. I used to love walking through the tall crops whwn I was a child!
whoopsie
There's one on the A10 in Cambridge too. They lay out a different maze each year. A great day out indeed!
Seagazer
There's one on the A10 in Cambridge too. They lay out a different maze each year. A great day out indeed! We went past that one on the way to our holiday on the Cambridgeshire waterways. It looks exactly the same in set up to the Dymchurch one, with giant kids play things - Jenga etc.
paddy1709
We did the Maize Maze near Upton upon Severn in Worcs this year. It was brilliant - half way through they dropped ice pops down from the look out bridge to everyone to stave off the thirst!
