Looking for suppliers in West Yorkshire.. Thanks Jaffa
hippy chick
I hope there is because I have been looking for some for ages now. Edited September 16, 2010 by Guest
Egluntyne
I think it is only available online. I once bought a 'make your own' kit via ebay. All I can say is, don't bother.
Leicester_H
It IS available in 'shops' - not just on line. No use to you, but I got some from Cotswold Poultry - so maybe look around for a local poultry supplier and give them a ring to see if they have any. JPalmer
I called all over my area in Essex and couldn't find anything that sold it. Most had never heard of it and asked me what it was. Ended up buying it on line. I prayed that there wasn't any other kind of Bokashi and that I ordered the right stuff but it came with no directions so I just sprinkle a little bit everyday on the area that they eat out of and pray that they get a bit in them but not too much. Only thing I will say that I got two bags cause the shipping cost was the same for two vs one and I had (so far found just got it 3 days ago) two travelers come with it (small magots)have to say it grossed me out! Yikes!! And my Polands turned their nose up at them ended up putting on compost. But had to go inside and take a shower and wash my hair just in case I missed one. (shudder)
kerryegg
I don't use all the time but bought some when my new hens had runny poo. From Wiggly Wigglers and it was bone dry and smelt and felt quite nice. They make it on their farm and the business seems mail order only. Luckily they did sell me a bag when I turned up at the farm, hard to find as no sign, but I had to complete all the mail order forms. LunaKiw1
I wish it was available in shops too. Because it was expensive re postage I did buy 3 bags at one time a few months ago - but by the time we needed the 2nd and 3rd ones there was a lot of mould inside and we eneded up wasting it. Now I just bite the bullet and order from Omlet - accepting the need to pay almost as much in postage as for the actual product. It is worth it though because of the benefits in harder poo etc.
Jaffa
Well theres certainly seems a market for it, hoping if I keep looking hard enough I will find a local supplier, I just tend to get blank looks when Ive asked in the past. Wish there was a decent supplier for 'all things chickens', seems a bit hit and miss at the mo. Some places seem to sell the same things. Is there a good shop in West Yorkshire that specialises more in chicken supplies, except just food and bedding. Any recommendations?
Jaffa
Seems to be more choice further south, but must be a more comprehensive shop, apart from Equestrian supplies, which obviously geared away from chickens!.
The Dogmother
I get mine from a local supplier, I don't get through a lot but have never found that it goes mouldy.
Jaffa
Ordered some Bokashi this morning from wiggly wormers, and also some mash with bokashi in it, to see what the girls reaction is to it.
Ain't Nobody Here
I'm looking around for a good deal too . Came across this which looks quite a good deal at first glance.
Chicken Shirl
That is a good deal ANH. I buy mine from Worm Bubble in 25ltr tubs that last's me a year with composting. The whole composting set up is very reasonable from your link. I paid over £35 for one EM bucket years ago.
Thalia
Can I ask how much bran people add to their feed? I just put a couple of handfuls into my girls' food, but I have no idea whether that's too much or not enough. I just bought some from Wiggly Wigglers and the delivery was very quick. It smells wonderful.
Ain't Nobody Here
That sounds about right to me. I don't think it's an exact science - if you find you're getting through it too fast (ie it's costing you too much ) just cut back a bit .
