CallyChook
OK, so my gorgeous polands from this yr and just fabulous. I love them all like I love my own kids!! Hope I haven't added too many pics to one post? if so, sorry moderators!! the 9 week olds, both hatched from a pot-luck bantam poland £2.99-for-six-eggs ebay purchase and both well, brownish! Xanthe (thinking a Roo) Pringle, thinking a girlie and the 11.5 week olds (again ebay eggs but perhaps of a more discerning quality??) Brian, who seems to be Mrs Brian (my son named her at 1 day old - the trouble with letting a three yr old name your chooks!!) Beaker, the very first to hatch and my absolute baby (ok bad pic of me but hey, I'm the size of a whale and makeup is just too much to be bothered with right now!!) Ethel (not my hatch, bought a few weeks ago to increase the lady numbers) Flappy, the most shapely of all and elegant to a tee and Twingo, the alpha male and also a shoulder-rooster, he loves pecking about my ears and is always the first to come running for a fuss. I hope he stays as friendly!!

CallyChook
thankyou folks.... I'm a complete Poland convert now. It's polands from here on in.... I just need to win the lotto so I can get a bit more land....
Griffin
They are addictive! I have a blue splash freeloader hen called Olive and a silver laced hen called Doris. I wanted them to have another Poland friend or two so hatched some more. The chicks are seven weeks old now, a cuckoo and two silver laced. I think I've got two girls and a boy, time will tell! craftyhunnypie
Polish are on my wanted list for hatching next year. Yours are just stunning - I'm really The colours in your birds are amazing, you must be very proud of them. Well done. Emma.x
CallyChook
thanks Emma *big cheer for cheshire chickeneers!!!* Brian has a twisty beak so no breeding off her, but am going to hatch out a batch of my own birds next yr, just for me to keep. Or that's the plan anyways! They'd all be mixed up wonky colours, but I don't mind, I'd just love to have a random lot of my own as the only mixes I need to avoid would be Pringle x Xanthe and Blue silkie x blue silkie - so will hatch from Flappy, Ethel and Shine.... yay! The hard thing will be gettin rid of the boys.... as I can't keep any more, and they'll be my hand reared little babies... my mum has mentioned me having some of ther land tho, so if I can save up for a couple of houses, then I'll be able to keep a few.... chicken dreams xx
Chortle Chook
Well I was sure I would get two more Silkies but now I find I'm thinking 'Polands' after I have seen these. Even my partner who has always said 'I'm not having funny looking birds like that' on looking at your photos has said 'Oh they do look cute, OK". (N.B. the 'OK') Can someone say whether they scratch up plants a lot (my Slikies don't)? On the main Omlet breeds section it says they are good in the garden because they don't eat lots of plants but do they hoof everything in sight the way some chickens do? I'd want them to free range and was once told that only breeds with feathered feet would not turn my cottage style garden into a mud bath. Griffin
My Polands don't scratch and dig but my Silkie does
JPalmer
Your Poland's are gorgous! I just got three Polands in Aug my first chickens ever and whenever I posted that was the breed I wanted everyone said ... too hard for a newbie but I haven't had alot of issue and I am sooooo in love with the breed that I doubt I will ever get any other kind. Really want to get three more myself most likely next year but can't take the chance with hatching due to the cockeral issue. My neighbors would got bonkers and I just couldn't kill cull one Congrats!!
craftyhunnypie
Well if get polands, I'm going to be wanting a trio / quartet . Hopefully we are moving next year & the plan is to build up on some different breeds. I'm going to want a cockerel for each breed. Yay to the boys - which I just adore! Why are the males of most species so stunning? You best watch out if you're a Cheshire chickeneer. As if you are that close, one or two of your lovely bunch may go poof! Chortle Chook
Oh dear now I really do have a 'Poland itch'. They all look so lovely and everyone says such nice things about them. Anyone know where I can get one that is not too far from Berkshire / South Oxfordshire? I've looked on the Omlet 'chicks for sale' area but no luck. Hants would be OK but there are only cockerels round there it seems, and hens it must be.
Griffin
I've bought Poland eggs from Luci at Birdhaus near Brackley. Google or PM me for her details. She sells loads of different coloured Polands.
Redwing
Luci has some of the best stock about, I would also recommend her
