craftyhunnypie
Hi - I have a question about these cute pygmy hedgehogs. I know that are nocturnal, but do they also hibernate over Winter? Emma.x
Chucky Mama
I don't know There did use to be someone on the forum that kept them but I can't remember who They may be able to cope without hibernation as they will be kept at higher temperatures. I know plenty of people who don't hibernate tortoises, they just bring them indoors. Ours always hibernates though, even though he is brought in when it gets cold. grracee
Not sure but my friend keeps them so I'll ask her for you!
Lewis
It was Martin that had them or worked at the pet shop with them Hughie, our tortoise, is only 6 (I think ) so doesn't hibernate - just stays inside under his heat lamp over the winter
The Dogmother
It was Martin that had them or worked at the pet shop with them it was Martin, he was breeding the at home. He's not really on the forum any more though. I'd find a breeder's site and ask them.
Martin B
Not on the forum anymore??? No they do not hibernate. Being an African mammal, the desert temperatures do not get low enough in the wild for them to hibernate. In captivity, they should be fine as long as they are in a warm heated house, if they do get too cold and try to hibernate then they could become quite ill I believe. It is always a precaution to offer a heat source in the winter. Wether this be a snugglepad, heat mat under the cage or heat lamp. Let me know if you need any more advice. I have three babies at the moment (6wks) and they are very cute... Martin

The Dogmother
It will be lovely to see you Martin, will I recognise you after all this time? We're at McKechnies Cafe just behind Rother Market from 8.30am, then walking the dogs afterwards in a field outside Stratford. We'll have loads to catch up on! I don't think you'll recognise Rosie!
