Just seen an ad for this company and had a look at their website. Apparently, if you have a 'perfect' roof you might be eligible for free solar panels and their installation! Sounds a bit too good to be true to me so thought I'd ask the Omletpedia as there is always a wealth of information and knowledge :D It would be marvellous if this isn't too good to be true as we'd have it done in a flash :D

That'll be it. It says you use the electricity the panels produce first and when its dark or not sunny enough you use the stuff from you usual supplier. But to quote a well known company 'every little helps' I shall look into this more, starting by listening to Jeremy Vines show - but that will be tomorrow.

Hello! Funny you should post about this now, I was going to post today about any experience other Omleteers have of solar panels. I'd love to have them installed but like you, tend to think that the freebie ones sound a bit too good to be true. Does anyone out there have any experience of solar panels, the fitting (and cost of fitting) please?

Thanks! (sorry to hijack your post bluekarin!)

ok let me start here, there are 2 completely differant types of solar,

1 solar thermal which uses a fluid and vacuum to heat hot water

2 pv that produces electric,

the pv installer as mentioned earlier dont really give a true figure, they offer free panels and yes you get the free electric but what they get is the 43p per kw that that unit produces via the micro generation scheme. If you have the money and think you will be staying somewhere long enough id get it done off your own back as you will be generating roughly £2-3k per year ( you can see why they want to put it everywhere) of electric which is paid directly to you. Solar thermal will be available for pay incentives from april 2011 under the Rhi.
