daxigirl
The shine was taken off the arrival yesterday by the sad death of little Cupcake , she'd been a bit off colour on Sunday, so popped her in a box to take to the vets yesterday morning and whilst on the phone to the vet looked in the box but she'd gone. It's sad that she never got to try the new house or lay her first egg. I then managed to empty a tin of evaporated milk in the fridge (boy can that go a long way) and irreparably break my laptop. Paxo has however christened the nesting box this afternoon with her 3rd egg and the yellow leg gang are happily in residence in the

WitchHazel
Sorry to hear about Cupcake. In a strange sort of way, it's probably best that she went before you installed her in the Cube, otherwise you'd be wondering if it was the shock of the move. (Which it wouldn't have been. But you might have wondered). Hazel

daxigirl
Big thanks for all the sympathy. Seems to have been a lot of chickens deaths lately amongst everyone so I didn't feel so alone and that it was something I'd done wrong, they die suddenly and unexpectedly and that's it. If that makes sense. I'm not going to replace her but get some eggs next year when they get broody and give them something to do, then I can keep a chick or two.
