craftyhunnypie
I'm a believer of you get what you pay for. Mum has seen a soup maker on bid up tv - it went ridiculously cheap, but was a make I'd never heard of. Emma.x
Griffin
It's here Mr Griffin made a smoothie for the kids tonight. I can't eat/drink that because smoothies make me gag but I've got a load of Asda shopping arriving in the morning mainly consisting of fruit and veg so I can play
craftyhunnypie
My vitamix soup... 5 carrots 1 onion (small) 1 tin tomatoes 1 red pepper 2 vegetable oxo cubes half a green chilli pepper bit of cayenne pepper bit of ground ginger salt & pepper Top up jug with about 2 thirds full of water. Make sure left switch is down...dial is on 1. Flick up right hand switch. Turn dial slowly to 10. Then flick left switch upwards. Very noisy for about 8 minutes or until it feels to hot to cup hands round jug. Flick left switch down. Turn dial back to 1. Then flick right switch down. Pour & serve! This soup has a kick - so if you don't like spicy - leave the chilli out! We do a fab cheese sauce in it to. It's under macaroni cheese in the file. We just use the cheese sauce & pour over cooked cauliflower. I did it last night & put in too much flour. It was very glutenous & more like potato puree consistency. oops! Have fun & enjoy! I can recommend Milk, a couple or so frozen strawberries & a drop or two of vanilla essence. Whiz up for an amazing milkshake! Love love love the baileys & chocolate whip / mousse. Carton of whipping cream, some chocolate sauce & a measure of Bailey's. Whiz on high for about 30 seconds until thick & whippy! You can tell by the noise. Serve in chocolate cups! Mmmmm Enjoy! Griffin
Daisy made another smoothie this morning for herself and her sisters. Apples, carrot, courgette and some frozen strawberries. She learnt that the Vitamix does not appreciate whole apples I think we'll be eating lots of soup this weekend and I'll try your recipe too
Griffin
Just had Thai Ginger soup for lunch http://community.vitamix.com/service/displayDiscussionThreads.kickAction?as=22442&w=93034&d=315961 I used less cashews though, I'm doing Weight Watchers and thought that 130g was probably too many. Added half a fresh chilli for extra kick and probably a good inch of ginger.
Griffin
The Vitamix is coming into it's own tonight crushing ice for my Baileys I was only going to have one or two but at this rate the bottle will be empty soon
craftyhunnypie
Enjoying your vitamix then? Funnily enough - I have a Bailey's in the hand at this very moment. Emma.x
Bramble
Not sure if I should post this here or start a new thread, but here goes ... I've been debating about a vitamix for ages ( fellow omleteers ave a LOT to answer for ) but really I need to know if they are worth the money? I'm mainly interested in the soup making option, but would probably use it for smoothies too. Would I really use it? This is a huge purchase that I don't want to make if it'll end up at the back of the cupboard? Thanks!
craftyhunnypie
Think again!..Our vitamix is permanently out on the work surface & is used 4 plus times a week! Fantastic! Emma.x
Bramble
Thanks! Do you use it for making soup? Heard some reports that it comes out with a very odd texture and some things don't cook in it as well as others? Guess the fact there aren't any used ones on ebay says a lot? LolaLayla
I've seen the Cuisinart machine advertised, does anyone know how it compares to the Vitamix ? Thanks.
Bramble
I've seen the Cuisinart machine advertised, does anyone know how it compares to the Vitamix ? Thanks. Do you mean the soup maker? That's massively cheaper (though still a lot of dosh), think it's about £130/£140 and gets some rave reviews on Amazon and some much less rave reviews, though guess that's the same with any appliance? I've heard bad reviews (though admittedly not many) about the soup a vitamix makes, which makes me even more cautious about buying one
craftyhunnypie
Depends how much water to veg you put in. I think it makes perfect soup - very much like the convent garden ones. I like mine medium thick. Proper rustic food. I do get a few bubbles on the top of the soup when I first switch off, but after pouring into bowls & leaving to settle it's fine. I love my carrot, pepper & ginger soup. mm mmm mmm. It makes the most amazing cheese sauce to serve over cauliflower or broccolli. Have also had this over leeks & it's mm mm mmm. LolaLayla
Yes it would be great to hire them for a week or so I wonder how easy they are to clean. I have seen soup makers demonstrated and they just give them a whizz with water and they seem fine but what if you make soup and then leave the machine for a while and then try to clean it I would love to get one but they are a lot of money and I may not use it much. Although I like the cheese sauce idea as one of my sons is addicted to macaroni cheese!
Bramble
That's why I'd like to try one first, they SAY you just whizz it with some warm water, but is it really true, I wonder
craftyhunnypie
We rinse out the thick stuff under the hot tap - then literally whizz it up with water & a couple of drops of washing up liquid....sooooo simple! Emma.x

Emma.x Ditto. Sometimes it needs more cleaning than others, the kids smoothies are a quick rinse and blast with water. Mr Griffins special recipe gravy needs washing up liquid. Either way it's dead easy and quick though.

LolaLayla
Not sure if I should have started a new thread or not... Just wanted to know how everyone is getting on with their Vitamix as I have been given the go ahead to get one for my birthday . Is it still being used as much? Which model should I go for? I also need to source it at the best price! Please can anyone give me up to date info on this? Thank you.
