stehaggan
I am flying down to London tonight with the other half as his birthday treat. We have a hot airballoon ride booked in Enfield tomorrow and then the london duck tour on friday am. We will have most of tomorrow and all day friday after the tour (flight home in the evening) and was wondering if anyone had any ideas. I have googled to see whats on, I like shopping but wanted to know if anyone else has done anything special that they can suggest ?
Chucky Mama
I was going to suggest the Duck Tour but I see that you are already doing that I always enjoy eating in Chinatown and Covent Garden is good for a wander.

I'm on my phone otherwise I would do a link for you. I like to start at the Westminster end, so catch tube to Westminster stn and cross the river. MarkBevBen
I'm not sure where the duck tour will take you or where your hotel is, but we used to live in London and whenever we had visitors we'd take them on a boat trip from say Westminster to Greenwich, then get off there and have a wander around. It's a lovely little area, with kooky shops, a market and lots of nice places to eat and drink. Then you can get the DLR back into town, or stop of at Canary Wharf where again there's even more shops and lots of nice restaurants and bars too. This link might help you plan getting around by bus, tube, DLR, boat etc (Transport for London): http://www.tfl.gov.uk/ Here's a link to a website all about Greenwich: http://www.visitgreenwich.org.uk/ Here's a website all about Canary Wharf: http://www.mycanarywharf.com/ I guess it all depends what you like doing really. There's loads of shops around Oxford Street, but it does tend to get very busy there so I always avoid unless it's early morning through the week! The Kings Road is nice for shopping too with a different atmosphere to Oxford Street - nearest tube is Sloane Square or get a bus from Victoria. Oh that reminds me, there's a nice new shopping centre at Victoria (over the road on Victoria Street) as well now too! The South Bank is always nice for a stroll, you could start at Waterloo and head along the river to London Bridge, stopping off en-route if you wish - you could visit the Tate Modern, which always used to be free entry. Then at London Bridge, there's Borough Market where you can sample and/or buy lots of yummy foods and there's some lovely pubs, bars and restaurants around there too. Of course, you could always take in a show if you fancy it, here's a link to the official theatre guide: http://www.officiallondontheatre.co.uk/london_shows/ Have a fab trip both of you and I'd recommend you take some comfy shoes! Yes the South Bank has really come on over the last few years hasn't it, here I've done a link for you and Stehaggen, Patsy: http://www.southbanklondon.com/index.php?pid=8 Thought you'd also like to see about Borough Market too: http://www.boroughmarket.org.uk/

Guest
You should definitely do Portabello Road Market the atmosphere is really great... Also, walking east from Waterloo Bridge along the Thames passing places like the Tate Modern and The Globe Theatre towards Borough Market which is always fun to have a mooch around... There are also some lovely undiscovered back streets in the City Quarter around Liverpool Street Station St' Paul's which take you back 100 years and makes you feel as though you could be in a Dickens Novel and it's quite surreal to see the Gherkin peaking out over the skyline! Other markets worth wondering around are Spitalfields and Campden!! As for eating - if you like Moroccan food - I can recommend Momo's on Heddon Street the food is to die for the the décor makes you think you have slipped back in time to a real live restaurant in Marrakesh! Have a great time & enjoy!
Willow
Another vote for the London eye, but you want to pre-book. The last ride as the lights are on over London is nice especially if you want something a bit more romantic.
stehaggan
Thanks for all your comments... I think the plan is to hit borough market in the morning and have a go on the chocolate cuisine which is on tomorrow then the ballon in the afternoon before tea. Then on Friday hit south bank after the duck tour for an Italian designer show and cheese and wine mmm then shop shop shop At the airport now having a beer - cheers everyone x

I hope you have a great time, London has lots to offer. And ditto again. Although a friend and I a few years ago did "Tourist Days" up in London a few times a year. There is so much to do we had some great days! Especially the big museums and the shows. Why is it we never really appreciate what is on our own doorstep?
