Feeding Christmas cakes

Recommended Posts

Do you all have special techniques for feeding Christmas?? :think:

I know that some just brush the alcohol on and others ensure a good slosh is poured over the top, but I'm never too sure how much and how frequent.

This year I am making spherical (ball) fruit cakes to decorate as Christmas baubles, as so;

any idea how I can feed a ball cake?

Thanks, Cara

I have a syringe that you use for filling up said perfume bottles. Not sure if you can get them anymore - I think mine came from Scotts of Stow (as it was a pressie from my sister when she worked there) but it might be worth a look. Its an impressive cake though. Not sure mine would look as good if I had a go - icing always goes funny for me.

I skewer the cake all over and then drizzle the brandy over it. The brandy runs down the holes. As the cake will be iced, the holes don't matter! I use the bottom of the cake to be the top so I get a nice flat surface to pour the brandy on and to ice. I can see that my method would not work so well with a ball cake though!
