francesca88
A couple of weeks ago I returned home from work to find my silver-laced wyandotte being picked on by my other 11 chickens. I removed her from the coop - she was a bit wobbly on her feet but otherwise seemed ok. I took her indoors for the night, and when she settled down to sleep her head turned completely upside-down, her neck in a cort of C-shape so her beak was facing forwards, but the wrong way up. After a bit of googling I found that this can be caused by a vitamin deficiency so I crumbled a couple of multivitamins in her water, but this doesn't seemed to have helped her. During the day she is fine, she wanders up and down her run bok-bokkin, and she is eating and drinking fine. But at night her head is upside-down! Does anyone have any experience of this...? Egluntyne
Maybe it is just the way she likes to sleep?
Plum
Most odd. As long as she corrects it now and is ok in day I would do as you say and give a tonic such as lifeguard.
Lewis
Is a bit odd As long as she's fine in herself holding her head in the day I'd go with lifeguard too and just keep an eye on her...
francesca88
Maybe it is just the way she likes to sleep? She never used to sleep like this, and this really does not look normal (or comfortable!) I'll try to get a photo tonight. For the moment though, she is happy so I suppose it could just be one of those things!
Falkor
I had this with an exbatt that we got out. We decided she was stargazing which is a vitamin B deficiency and the symptons got worse when she was stressed (picked up) or ultra relaxed (asleep). Like you we used crushed vit tablets as well as feeding lots of high Vit B feeds in addition to a high quality layers feed. Three months on Necky as she is called is nearly 100% perfect with just the occasional head tilt once in a while. Em x
