Moulting

Recommended Posts

One of our chooks is loosing quite a few feathers are the moment, is it the right time of year for moulting or does that not really matter?

Once the Husband gets home I am going to get he to help me give her a generally once over, but she is her normal perky self, running around the garden just a bit bald. I am also going to give them some tuna to try and boost her protein.

Two of mine look like they are oven ready in parts  I am giving them live meal worms, lifegaurd in the water and a bit of tuna now and again. The one doesn't seem to like venturing out of the run now she is partly bald and seems to prefer to stay on the aubiose in the run. I presume it's warmer in there as the run is covered with a tarp but I am a bit worried how they will cope when the weather turns much colder this week. :anxious:

we've got one so far and she looks a state :S we were really worried at first, we thought perhaps there wasn't enough protein in their diet because they were eating the feathers, and they're pecking each other (not agressively there's no sore points or blood) and there's nice new quills underneath, but last night we sprayed them all with anti-pecking spray (so now we all smell of it lol) and that hasn't worked at all, but all are well and healthy, but until we read a few articles on here we were getting worried too. :) But hopefully their just getting their nice new feathers ready for winter. all the best.
