JanTheDiver
I have been using Verm x on the girls every month since I have had them but in the last couple of clean outs I have noticed a small amount of worms in the poop trays So I have now bought some Flubenvet 1% medicated premixture, but I am confused about how much to use. I have five girls and the leaflet is suggesting 6g in 2kg of feed for chickens, but this is a lot of food for five chickens I have heard that if you just mix it in the layers pellets it falls to the bottom of the grub, so I thought I would make up some porridge with the pellets and mix it into there and then feed this to the girls, once they have eaten the porridge then keep the grub full of pellets for the rest of the day. But I can't work out how much to put into the porridge, both me and the OH are both unsure and don't want to under or over dose them. Can I have some guidance please Thanks
Nobby65
the dose time is 7 days so 2 kgs of food will prolly not be enough and you may have to make some more up. i started to worm my 6 chooks on thursday and need to make up some more dosed food tomorrow. figarogir1
Flubenvet works best with no free ranging and no treats so that the dose is gradually administered through the day you will be suprised how much food they get through when that is all that is on offer
Redwing
Its supposed to be given via the normal feed so they take it in throughout the day so I'd add it to the pellets If 4kg feed is too much then halve it to 2kg and add half the amount of Flubenvet - 3g A little veg/olive/cod liver oil (just a drop) added to the pellets and stirred in will help the powder stick to the pellets
The Dogmother
I'll ditto Tasha's reply above.
Heidi-Hi
I've got the stronger stuff - 2.5% Intermediate - I've got 9 chickens that needs worming. Does anyone know what the amout is I need to mix?
The Dogmother
You just make it up as per the instructions on the pot, there's no difference with numbers of hens. The FAQ section on the forum has plenty of information about dosing.
JanTheDiver
Sorry might be a silly question but, I know they are not supposed to have any treats whilst having their Flubenvet, does this mean greens? My girls have eaten all the grass in their run ages ago so I usually try and make sure they have lots of greens, will they be all right without them for a week? Egluntyne
Strictly speaking they should only have the 'doctored' pellets for the week, but in practice I guess most of us do sneak them the odd treat. However, It won't do them any harm at all to go without their greens for a week. When you reintroduce them, go steady at first, or they might get the squitts. LeeMeadfan
I dosed my girls on the 6g dose to 2kg of food - I have 3 chooks - and they got through it in the 7 days treatment time! I was a bit apprehnsive re: mixing as sounded a bit daunting - ie. the logistics of mixing a small amount of food etc and increasing, but it was quite straightforward. I think the key is to follow the instructions and mix the 6g into a 'small' amount of ood first, gradually mixing that into increasing larger quantities. I started by weighing out the 2kg of pellets then using a container to mix the Flub. into just a couple of scoops of food (a feed scoop - well I use a type of trowel!) then just kept increasing the amount of pellets into this 'mix'. Sounds more complicated and time consuming reading above but it wasn't! Hope this helps!
catherinedon
van I just as how often you all do this thanks
Egluntyne
My most recent pot says 240g Flubenvet doses 200 kg pellets. That would be 12g per 10 kg feed. Generally people give approx 1 tsp per 4 kg pellets. I'd guess that 18 hens would eat approx 10 kg pellets in a week, so you'd want around 2 1/2 tsp for that amount of pellets. Nobby65
you must have the stronger stuff Egluntyne the 2 1/2% strenth rather than the more commen 1% strenth
Egluntyne
How daft am I ... I meant to put this reply in a different thread which was a query about the 2.5% mixture.
