I was worried that the weight of the snow on the WIR might cause leakage or split the plastic - so hubby and son brushed the roof and the tops of the cubes; while I waited in the warm to take a few photos

I'm glad they used a brush - I stupidly used a rake last year and made lots of holes in the plastic roofing . I've since had another layer of corrugated plastic laid on top and have used a brush this year .

 

We've cleared this much snow off twice already .

I have brushed the snow off the top of mine twice now. I'd hate it to collapse under the weight of the snow.

Oooo I must do this tomorrow, for one reason, it seemed very dark in the run today because of the snow on the roof. Brush it is then.

 

ANH how bad is it in Edinburgh? My daughter is due back from her travels (India, Australia, Hong Kong) and is due back any time, first to Manchester, then Edinburgh - she lives in Leith.

Jill, there's been another couple of inches overnight. So that makes about 16 inches in total, I reckon . Edinburgh airport was closed but as far as I know is open now. (A friend's OH has been stuck in Amsterdam since Sunday after climbing Kilimanjaro!) Just read that the airport's closed till at least midday so she'd better check regularly.

 

The main roads are passable, just, but the minor roads are a nightmare. It would take a snowplough to get my car out . Even the bypass was down to one lane and accidents haven't helped. Leith should be OK though and if she's coming from the airport the route in is pretty major so should be clear by now.

 

Hope she makes it home .

Thanks for that ANH. She texted me yesterday. She flies into Manchester next week. Then they get the train back to Edinburgh - although if she's stranded here I won't mind (not seen her for 2 months) but boyfriend has to be back at work!

 

Snow not too thick here only about 2 inches on WIR roof - it's amazing how dark it has made it in the run. all 3 girls huddled in one corner. I keep telling them it's not as bad as last year when Tikka & Korma were stuck in the eglu run and the ground was really hard, but they're not listening

Just cleared another 9" or so from the WIR roof. The hens are very confused as the run seems so dark.

My men cleared the roof again this morning a good 4 inches since yesterday. Chickies seem to be OK - I'm not letting them out as I think they'll get wet and then find it difficult to dry off - the temp is -2 outside and +1 inside the run.
