lozza_9
Hi All, I am after some advice on the feeders you get with the eglu. Whats the best way to clean them. Have tried using a hose and cloth to clean them but they dont get really clean. I think someone said on here they put them in the dishwasher - is this correct?just want to check before I melt Daisy and lily feeders. Chickens are doing very well. They have meet the neighbours - by escaping while I was at work. Loz
buffie
Hi all new grub and glugs are dishwasher safe so you can go for it BBx
Egluntyne
I just use hot water, an old dish washing brush and Ecover washing up liquid. I don't fancy putting them in the dishwasher somehow.
xScrunchee
I haven't got a dishwasher so I'll have to wash mine in the sink. However, even if I did have a dishwasher-not sure how I'd feel about washing the hens stuff in with our things lol
Cinnamon
One word - DISHWASHER They come up like new
Olly
I am torn - I agree that when I tried the Glug in the dishwasher it came out sparkly ... but I am not that keen, even on a hot wash, at putting their dishes in with mine. Which is odd, as I have no qualms about putting the gunged-up cat dishes in the dishwasher! I don't even feel comfortable about cleaning the chicken feeders in the kitchen sink. This could be because I've had two recent unexplained attacks of D&V since I got the chickens - probably no connection at all, but it's made me nervous! Have decided to compromise - every so often I put all the bathroom bits (soap dish etc) through the dishwasher, so I will put the Glug and Grub through when I do those. In between times, they will get a quick rinse with the hose - I can't believe the hens care whether they are sparkling clean or not!
bronze
Dishwasher though not in with our stuff I do a full load by doing the dog bowls at the same time
Basset
I find that the feeders I've put in the dishwasher get dirtier quicker. I think the dishwasher tends to scuff the surface and particularly for the glug they attract algae quicker. So I prefer to handwash mine now. Although they do look wonderfully clean after a blast in the Washey!!!!
Helly Welly
I dishwash mine when possible, although OH did it without getting the mud and bark out of the bottom first and then spent half an hour hosing the dishwasher clean......MEN
Lynn
Like Olly, I can put our cat dishes in the dishwasher along with our plates and cutlery, but somehow can't put the chicken's bits and bobs in there. I have a separate washing bucket, cloths and brushes for the Eglu and clean everything outside. Then again, we've only had the girls six weeks, so "standards" may slip in a week or two. The Dogmother
I usually handwash our Glug, but Phil sometimes take it to put in his dishwasher and it comes out sparkly.
Guest
A bucket of soapy water or out in the rain And an old long handled brush. When the hens were up the allotment the glugs used to go green very quickly in the summer - so it was just a wash in cold water in the water tank. Its a cosmetic thing though, as the water won't hurt them (you should see where my bantams drink from. Nice clean sparkling water contains dotted around the garden? As if - they always go for spots that collect water and its stale too!)
The Dogmother
Mine like to drink out of the dip in the top of a drain cover - the water there is really rank!
Guest
Yes that is just the sort of thing mine do - the more digusting the nicer it must be - like a mature whisky or wine
Trucking Girl
pop them in the dishwaser or scrub with really hot water and a dash of citracidel, both do the trick. Trucking Girl
