crochet beginner...advice on edging/finishing work

Recommended Posts

I am a beginner and have only learnt to crochet in the last few days after buying that crochet mag months ago for 99p and sticking it in a cupboard

anyway, I taught myself to chain, single crochet and what i thought was dble crochet which turns out to be half dble crochet!

I'm in the process of making a simple scarf for my hubster in half dble crochet, see pic of ongoing project here

but, when it's finished is there a way to make the edges look a bit neater? i believe you can edge your work but i really don't know how to do that and being left handed, the videos I'#ve found on you tube haven't really helped as they go too fast and are back to front, so to speak.

can anyone help me or explain to me how to just do a simple edge aroind my scarf please? :D

We've got nearly all the same books in our bookcase!!!

I had the same toubles with my crotchet scarves, and ended up stitching a piece of velvet ribbon folded in half to cover the edge. Be alright in a dark brown colour, not too feminine!!

Scarf is looking good , girl. Lucky him :)

I'm not really sure HOW to do that though Egluntyne, I mean down the sides that is. I guess I'll just have to have a go and hope for the best :?

Thanks Freddie but I can't/don't sew  i guess if I have too much trouble edging it then it'll just have to look 'rustic'!

so when I finish the final row do I make the 2 or 3 stitch chain at that point and instead of turning the work round to carry on another row, i go down the side instead? Is that what you mean?
