Freeranging giving my hen runny poo eurgh!

Recommended Posts

Hi all, when I first got my 4 girls one of them had runny poo which I put down to the stress of moving. While they were stuck in their run during all the snowy weather the bad poo cleared up , but they have been free ranging in the garden a lot over the last few days and the dreaded runny poo has returned. :vom: Cleaning the roosting bars is disgusting!

Is it just because they are eating more grass when they are freeranging or could it be a particular plant in my garden is doing it? I don't want to have to stop letting them all out -they'll be really grumpy. Is there anything I can feed them that might balance their tummies so they can still eat the greenery? I've tried the Poulty Answer by the Fulvic Acid Company but it doesn't help.

We have three Light Sussex bantams and they are in the run am and out pm tho' in all day over the really snowy weather. It doesn't seem to matter where they are - sometimes poo is runny and sometimes not (but always the same colour!) They have just started laying , having got them in August as 8 weekers, and they have bright eyes, red combs and are perky and alert so obviously healthy. I wouldn't start worrying unless its a persistent problem and there are other signs of possible ill health - just keep an eye!
