TAJ
What has happened to it? http://www.dtbcentre.co.uk/ I last bought hens from them last Feb and the wife was due to give birth and they had a new manager starting to help out. I looked at the website recently and it was there. We popped in 2nd Jan only to see a all their signage had gome and a 'business to let' board and a notice saying farm & cafe closed! I hope they are ok and just fancied a change. Tracy
Valkyrie
Yep, I noticed the advert had changed names in the Smallholding mag. Then it changed back. Very confusing as we went there during the summer and it was a lovely place. The cafe was really good too.
Lewis
The Devonshire Traditional Breed Centre is now closed. It will open again in the Spring of 2011 with new owners and at a new site on the outskirts of Dorchester. Relocation by the sounds of it
ISCA
Thre owners had their baby (a boy) but decided to wind down the business. The DTBC is re-locating to Dorset but is being run by new owners. I bought all my chooks from there and frequently popped in for a bacon sarnie, but sadly no more. You could always rent it and set up a similar business if you gancied? From the local paper: The Devonshire Traditional Breed Centre in Crediton has closed. It will reopen next spring with new owners and at a site on the outskirts of Dorchester. Nick and Tracey Roach, have run the business — which included livestock, a farm and gift shop, cafe and children's play area — for the past 10 years. The family have been tenant farmers at Wellparks and Downes Home Farm since 1830 but are now moving for a number of reasons.
TAJ
So it looks like someone has bought the business name to use elsewhere - as you say the farm is still available to let, so an opportunity for someone to take it on - it always seemed busy when ever we went there. Valkyrie
Well seeing as they're tenants it might have been the case that the rent was blown up way over budget - depending on who actually does own the property and land outright. We may never know. But on the brighter side for me . . . Dorchester is much closer!
sarabb4
I know this is an old thread- but does anyone know what happened to Nick and Tracey that used to run the dtbc? We used to live in Exeter and spent many a happy hour wandering around the old farm.. Would love to wish them well and congratulate them on the birth of their boy....... TAJ
No idea but drove past in April and now a house open to the public, no sign of any chickens/farm. Tracy
