Don't know if this has been posted about before but did anyone see it? Very glad to see they are banning caged eggs for 2012 onwards but it will be interesting to see what their minimum 'free range' space is per bird. I do hope that the free range farms don't end up like a certain company I saw in video earlier this month, mud, dead birds, dustbaths full of water & a huge infestation of red mite

Two battery Farms in the local area are closing cause of the new regulations

Just hope that the hens are offered to be re-homed or are taken by the BHWT before they are disposed of

I think many of the battery farms are going to be replaced by the 'enriched cage' system. An improvement, but hardly a great step forward. Some countries in Europe are protesting the ban, and I have heard that it's possible that for some countries, the deadline to switch to enriched cage or free range will be put back I really hope that isn't the case.

Not a huge step forward for chicken-kind, but better than nothing. Apparently though one of the problems may be that the rest of the EU is miles behind and we may find their eggs imported here as they'll be cheaper.

I think as Lavender said, there having 'enriched cages'. I think all they're having are slightly bigger cages
