beckyfitz
Its day 6 & I've had a quick look at a couple of my eggs, plan to do a more thorough job tomorrow night with a home-made candler but I couldn't wait! My pale Orpington X definitely has something there & I can see spidery veins, but I've looked at 2 Legbar Xs and can only see a dark shadow of the yolk - does this mean infertile or nothing to see yet? Any thoughts greatly appreciated, tomorrow I'll do all 10 & make a note aas best I can of the result Thanks Becky x
Griffin
Day seven is pretty definite. No spider veins = No chick. It should be fairly clear to see.
sjp
the brood I've got at the moment I only saw veins in a couple of the eggs I could never make out the yolk but I could tell the clear one but I still left it in till day 10 just incase had 6 out of 7 hatch 14 days ago
Madchook
Are they blue eggs? It might just be you aren't getting through the shell (are you seeing the yolk clearly or is it just the hint of the shape?). I bought a high lume candler last year and I found the hardest to candle was a araucana-never saw any veining in it at all and only went by airsac- CL's were only marginally better yet marans were easier (not what I expected). Best way to tell if you can see the yolk is if it moves freely in the egg when you tip it-if so then they are duds -also the air sac should be a bit bigger by now. I would be hestitant if you haven't used a decent candler yet- nowt worse than ditching an egg you though was dud.........
TAJ
Some shells are hard to see through - I can tell a dud - all the same light colour when candled, but with some colour eggs it is a lot harder to spot a dub - my view is if not 100% leave in and check at 10 days. beckyfitz
Thanks all, I had removed the blue ones last week, was very clear after I'd checked that they were clear - free moving yolks & no darker masses. All the other 7 are still going strong - only 4 days to go! Becky x
