quickcluck
Hi guys, Sweetie one of our orginal hybrids is now 3ish...... over the last few weeks, she's lost a little weight, her face feathers have gone grey and her comb is smaller and pale. A couple of weeks ago we found her on the floor, so brought her in, gave her some nutri drops and water and put her back the following morning. She's keeping up with the rest of the girls fine, eating and drinking. Just occasionally we find her on the floor, like she has a creaky leg and once down, can't get back up. she's getting in and out of the cube no problems.... I'm assuming that she's is just winding down and becoming an old lady, but don't want to miss anything.... Any thoughts??
MedusA
Hi quickcluck, My only suggestion, specifically regarding the leg giving way, would be that it could be something renal as that affects the nerves to the legs. A couple of years ago I looked after a friend's old hen who had similar symptoms and she had kidney disease. Unfortunately she died but one of my own ex-batts was off her legs last week. We suspected a kidney problem and took her to the vets. She has rallied with antibiotics and Metacam and appears to have made a full recovery. Hope that helps. quickcluck
Thanks for that! It's such a shame to see her, but she is very spritely in herself. Will keep an eye on her
sandyhas3chucks
Maybe get an expert opinion from a vet? you wont get antibiotics, or metacam or any other treatment any other way
Lewis
She's probably just getting old 3 is quite old for a hybrid and as they're egg laying machines it can really take it out of them. Tbh, theres not much a vet can do if you book an appointment for them to see her, as she'll most likely be fine at that time
