Waitrose Ducks. *warning distressing images*

Recommended Posts

The individuals that did this are. We seem to be forgetting that people have choices and those men chose to do this.

Yes -agreed, but.... you could argue this about anything. eg. negligent doctors - do we not expect systems to protect patients and not just blame 'individuals' ?. There must be mechanisms in place to detect and stop unacceptable behavior

The supermarkets aren't at fault in this case.

If the supermarkets aren't at fault in any way, becuase they have no control, then they can't be responsible for good/ethical behaviour either.

Someone obviously suspected bad behaviour because they went along and filmed it. Waitrose should monotor systems and have eg. procedures for 'whistle-blowers' (anonymously if necessary) to report thsi sort of cruelty. A company than boasts of its high welfare standards MUST take some responsibility and be pro-active in ensuring good welfare and not simply reactive. Thats why some people pay the higher prices that Waitrose charge - I'm sure they feel let down and dissapointed by this.

And yes - those men must be very twisted and I hope they are indentified and presecuted ASAP.

I do see your point Hazel, but as long as supermarkets rely on external producers, they can never be 100% sure. It is down to a tiny percentage of individuals that spoil things. Waitrose or any other supermarket can never control that, regardless of what policies they have in place.

I guess it's a bit like battering social services every time an abused child dies when the perpetrators are actually the ones in the wrong.

Noone has anything to be proud of really in these cases. I

I thought the same as Christian if you read my previous case but I also believe that if Waitrose are going to claim to be an ethical supermarket then they have to make the effort for that to happen
