Help - one of my girls has got a large clump of mud/aubiose stuck to one of her claws. I have tried to bathe it in warm water but it seems to be stuck like concrete. I'm not sure how gentle / how much pressure I can put on her claw without hurting her - or, will she be bright enough to peck the mud off herself Any advise gratefully accepted.

Just soak it and carefully squash the part not around her toe with some pliers - that usually works for mine.

thanks - will give it a try - need another willing pair of hands really to hold while I bathe but will give it a go

It's really tricky. I'm doing mine today too.... I have a pekin who picks up mud balls.

I think if you can stand her in some water for a while with a bit of soap in. It can take a while.

Does she have feathered feet?

 

They don't pick them off themselves unfortunately.

Aw, one of my pekins had this. I waited for a dry day and broke it off gently, but given the weather, you might do better to soak gently in warm water if your girl will put up with that.

When one of ours got bad, we stood her in a small pot of warm water for a few minutes. She seemed to really like it! And it helped to get the mud ball off her toes. Was a 2 person job though...

I put Matilda in a bowl of warm salty water to wash her feet today. I used an old toothbrush to get the dirt off and she chatted to me the whole time she was being washed. I think she really enjoyed it and I enjoyed the chat
