Forestchook
I've had a complaint about my cockerel, Bosley. I went round to warn the neighbours about a wall that has collapsed and they broached the subject. Apparently he has been waking them up as early as ten to six. There weren't angry or anything, just concerned and wondering if he was going to be staying... It slightly frustrating since despite living in a dubiously insulated timber bungalow he doesn't seem that loud to us. Even in the single glazed bathroom (the blind moves in the wind with the window shut!) which is on the same side of the house as the coop he doesn't sound loud enough to wake any body up! Admittedly he is marginally closer to their house than ours but they have a proper stone house with double glazing.... Anyway, while I've always know his stay may be tempoary I would like to keep him if I can. Discussing options with Mum on how to darken/insulate the coop to keep him quiet/ muffle the noise she pointed out a seperate smaller coop would be much easier to cover... Genius! That means I potentially have a second coop for intros! N
oneyolktoanother
hope you get to keep him we had to give ours to another home my oh was'nt keen on the noise but we were going to work round that but as he was bigger he started dragging our hens around which was very rough so a man rehomed him to breed him and is very spoilt there still gets his yorkshire puddings
Poached Egg
I don't have personal experience but some recent threads have suggested limiting head height (as well as darkening the coop) as this should stop him getting into crowing position. Fingers crossed something works.
