Hi All

Just a quick post about clear Perspex for the WIR. I have just ordered some from Trent plastics http://www.trentplastics.co.ukand am very happy with their product. Excellent price for the quantity, extremely well wrapped and delivery took a few days. Measurements are to the millimetre for nice snug fits for my WIR panels. Original contact was by email where I just sent a list of measurements for around 15 bits of Perspex. Paid over the phone by credit card and spoke to a really nice guy called Levi Dilly-even gave me a discount when I was cheeky enough to ask, which made it even cheaper! Paid a little bit more for 3mm rather than 2mm thick, but they have a complete range of thicknesses.

Am just treating some small corner dowels pieces of wood to nail in to hold on place. Just thought I would post as my girls are in desperate need of a wind/rain break, especially with this cold weather

Cheers

Ian

(Just to say, I have no connection in any way to this company-I sent out three emails for quotes and they were the friendliest, quickest and cheapest for the same product).

I have perspexed some of my panels at back of run and it has worked really well keeping out wind and rain. I have a door there with a removable panel to put up and down depending on the weather. I also left a gap at the top to allow for ventilation, the corrugated plastic roof can collect condensation if you aren't careful.

Take care in summer Ian to provide shade or it could become very hot and make sure they get lots of ventilation though agree they need the windbreak :D We need pics of your work when you've done it :D

Yes, I was wondering about leaving some air holes ;)

Just kidding, it is mainly along one side and also on the door hatch for the eglu to keep the cold wind at bay.

Have copied a photobucket link as you can hardly even see where it is fitted-some original photos too where the greenhouse used to be (veggies vs chickens lol)

Cheers

Thats really very good - I had to go back and look at the pictures three times as I couldn't make out which photos had the perspex fitted

I did eventually see the dowel around some of the edges

I might have to look into this as it would make a difference, as Plum says the cleartarps are OK but they don't fit as snugly after while.

Hi All

Thanks for the replies.

I would say the only downside is that it will get dusty, but am sure it can be scrubbed down quite easily. Test today as it is blowing a gale and the panes are holding very well-no rattling around in the wind. Girls got a blast of cold air when I walked out of the door this morning..almost bowled them over!

Seems to be doing the job very well and highly recommend

Cheers

Ian

ps-paid about £90 for the 15 pieces. Delivered by courier in three very well wrapped packages. For the quote, I just emailed him a list of dimensions for the pieces, numbering each one. When they arrived it had the dimensions and corresponding number ID attached to each panel-very well organised.

Dowelling was just the stuff from BandQ (found at the end of the rows). I did treat it for outdoors, but it seems to repel water very well on its own

Hi all

I went for 3mm in the end (rather than the 2mm). Not sure why, but I thought it would be a bit more sturdy-and yes it is!

The dowelling was fine and very easy. Just cut to size with a small hacksaw and then part nail the beading nails in beforehand...take it to the run, hold in place and knock them in. Did have a centrepunch to really bash them in at the end, but no split bits of dowelling.

Hope that helps

Ian

Mine is cos I don't know any better, I got the thin stuff because if you warm it with a hairdryer you can cut it with scissors :D

I cleaned the inside last night ANH. I squirted poultryshield through the wire onto the sheet then after a few minutes squirted water to rinse and it drained down between the sheet and wood fine so didn't go into the run. Wiped outside down and we are sparkling again. Until tomorrow when i do a big clean out of the run and it'll have a dusty film again.:lol:

mr beach chick has come up with a brilliant idea - we are going to use something called corex, its a very thin, lightweight sort of plastic. not competely clear, but quite rigid and strong. he uses it for work all the time (templating quartz worktops) so a) he knows where to get it and b) there are always offcuts which are therefore FREE.

we plan to drill small holes, cable tie (or poss staple) it to the wooden fascia/skirting boards, and maybe some supplementary fixings directly onto the wire. project for the autumn!!
