Henergy
I'm not much of an expert, but from what I understand it takes a while for their egg production to get going. Apparently when they are getting near to be able to lay, they crouch on the ground when you are near them. The large egg is most probably a double yolker - we have had one before & yes it was massive. The hen then went back to normal sized eggs after that. Purplemaniacs
Hi Eve Normally first eggs are fairly small and then increase in size as time goes on, unusual to have a large egg for the first egg, probably from the chook who has been laying. Are you sure it is just one laying and not two taking it in turns Chrissie
tracyann
Hi, I've been getting 1 egg a day since 9th March, I have had varying weights from 36g up to 67g, the latter was a "normal" size egg and was a double yolker. Hope that helps!

Alis girls
I've never had a double yolker
tracyann
I've never had a double yolker Not really such a bad thing, I'm always concerned that they will prolapse if the eggs are too big.
JillM
I've eaten one double yolker, and given several others of the same size and shape away
