reino1967
Hello there, I just need a bit of advice. Weve got 2 Pekin Bantams, one lavender, one salmon, around 1 year old. Weve had no health problems at all, but the salmon one has had a permanetly mucky bottom since just after we got her. I clean her up every couple of weeks, and she doesnt seem in any distress and she is laying without any problems. Her bottom gets covered in white goo quite quickly, which seems to solidify into a chalky ball at the base of her feathers. I thought it might be lice at first but i havnt seen any other evidence of lice or mites and she doesnt seem in any discomfort. Just dirty and a bit smelly:-/. Any advice welome. Thanks in advance Reino...
sandyhas3chucks
worm?
reino1967
Thought about that but she seems to have been the same from very young! I've looked through the various symptoms, and causes of different worms but can't find much relevance. I'm going to try a course of flubenvet from tomorrow so I'll see how it goes. Thanks very much. Egluntyne
Could just be the urate part of her poo sticking to the feathers. Does it smell of ammonia?
reino1967
Yes, it used to be quite a strong smell, it hasn't been too bad recently though. It's defiantly an ammonia smell though!
Egluntyne
Probably the urates then. Maybe you could trim the feathers a bit. I'd worm them anyway, to be on the safe side.
reino1967
That's great, thanks. I'm due to give her a wash tomorrow anyway so it'll be a good opportunity. Being a Pekin probably doesn't help either, with the big fluffy bottom Thanks very much, I'll let you know how I get on.
