3 new girls from the BHWT

Recommended Posts

I collected three new girls from Adele at Haslingden today. They are in much better condition than the three I had previously, don't know if this is because they are from a 'better' farm, or whether I am just lucky, but they are much perkier and quite well feathered this time. They have even sampled some grapes - last time it took weeks before the ex batts knew what grapes were all about! I also notice these ones have not been de-beaked like my previous girls were.

Congratulations on your beautiful new girls. We have had 3 lots of girls from the BHWT and they have varied in condition depending on the farm used. Our 2009 girls were in the best condition, it was the first time they had ever used that farm but they told us that a couple of weeks previously they had used another new farm and those girls were in a terrible state :(

I'm sure your girls will blossom in no time :D

Yes, it was all going like clockwork wasn't it? My surname begins with S, so I didn't get there until nearly 3pm, by which time most of the birds had already gone. It was a very slick operation. Of course, Adele is very experienced in rehoming and so you would expect this.

To anyone who is dithering, please take the plunge - these girls really need you!

BHWT - A quarter of a million girls rehomed to date :D

By the way, I try to name all my girls after relatives, so these three are named after my Great Aunt Hilda, my Great, Great Aunt Agnes, and My husband's Great Grandma, May.

It farm was really easy to find, after all the directions i thought i might get lost. my sister used to live in haslingden years ago and my parents live in rossendale so was an easy 2 hour drive from powys.

Just wish i could have taken more but i think if i had taken anymore it would have been more like a home from home for the batts trying to cram them in the cube

Well done to everyone who rescued yesterday, and to the fantastic work (including some wonderful forum members) of the volunteers, that work so hard to give these babies a chance of a proper life

Well said Space Chick.

When we collected ours three weeks ago from Brackley I was very impressed at how smoothly it went and how well organised it was. Well done to all involved

yes, it was so easy-the hardest thing for us was finding the place we came at it the completely opposite way to the one we should have done so that made it a little more tricky as you can imagine-neither of us has a wonderful sense of direction!

Once we stopped and asked someone for directions to the pub nearby we were fine and got their straight away. I hope that all got homes-and that the ones that didnt are feeling ok today-when we were cwaiting to collect, a hen was put in someones box but taken out again as they wanted to keep an eye on her-not sure what the problem was but I hope she is ok today :?

Well done to everyone involved in rehoming these lovely (but noisy-at the minute) creatures!

When i got there at 1.30 they said loads have gone already.

i got an egg as well this morning :)

Mine are fighting with my other girls through the net which keeps them apart. Wow! Lots of shouting and flapping going on this morning, they are a feisty trio. I hope it all calms down soon. I've had an egg from one too.

I've let my others out to free range, so things have settled down a bit, I don't think they are very pleased at having to accommodate another three evacuees! :shameonu:

Hope everyone elses are OK? I've just looked in and seen one of mine sunbathing, it makes me weepy (in a happy way).

yeah mine are fine. my friend is letting me borrow a run to put them in. a bit more fighting has been going on. Myrtle (aka less baldy) was sat in the run yesterday stretched out in the sun. Ive put a few pictures in my main thread (two weeks owning a cube and chickens). Agnes is showing lots of personality already.

lovely weather for their first taste of freedom too
