scarlettohara
Mine sometimes get this from the roosting bars - I use tea tree cream
Guest
is she broody do you think? they pull their own feathers out if they're broody so that they can keep their eggs warm.

LunaKiw1
I've found this thread and wonder if it is something that might explain my chook's 'red patch' query i posted a couple of days ago. Pepper doesn't strike me as the maternal type but it seems to link the red patch, lost feathers and fact she's taken to staying in the Eglu last few days. What's happened with your chook? Miggy
I posted this thread the other day. Is the photo similar? http://club.omlet.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=78114
crazycatlady
My chicken showed the same symptoms and my father (on whom I rely for so many things) told me that they do that so that they can sit on their eggs and incubate them thoroughly. He says it's not sore (even though it looks it)
cavysqueak
I've always used Petroleum Jelly on red patches as it acts like a barrier while the normal healing can take place. They also can't get hold of any feathers (new or old) as they're slippery, so it seemed to solve the plucking issue as well. Good luck XxX
